MK Breakers Head Coach Billy Beddow was pleased with his sides showing in the KitKing Trophy on Sunday evening – as his team ran out 93-72 winners over Nottingham Hoods.
The Hoods play their Basketball in NBL Division 1, a tier above the Breakers. Despite the difference in the league pyramid, Beddow’s side were dominant.
The Head Coach noted his delight with the KitKing Trophy win, but noted it’s a building block rather than an end product.
“I think on face value I am really pleased,” he said after Sunday’s victory. “We need to reflect and watch some video to break it down and get into the nitty-gritty. Overall, it was a good team performance, we scored well and defended well.
“It’s encouraging to continue playing like this against Division 1 Teams, we’ve just got to show we belong at that level.
“This is our first competitive game though and it’s important to stay grounded. We’ll look at how we can improve and implement that into our coaching.”

Beddow was able to use his full Gameday Roster allowing younger players Eric Arriaga and Jomi Omowa to earn some valuable competitive minutes.
“We have four guys who are in the Under-19 Team at Shenley Brook End Academy, the opportunity for them in every practice to come up against the guys like Jordan and Andre is amazing for their development. They get to suit up and play in these games and them opportunities are second to none.
“Everyone has worked hard to put together a really strong team, the guys have come together towards the end of Summer and worked really hard.”
Over 300+ fans packed out The Bletchley Arena to witness the win. Beddow was delighted with the attendance and was eager to encourage more fans to come down and watch the Breakers.
“The thirst for Basketball in Milton Keynes is still alive. If we can keep providing performances like we did today, it’s only going to grow. Basketball is the perfect sport to watch for your first game, it’s so quick, there’s a lot of scoring, you can sit next to the court. We stay after the game to sit and talk to everyone after the game, so come give it a try.
“It’s two away games and it’s early in the season to be doing so, I hope we can show our strength in depth and give everyone some minutes on court. We’ll take it one game at a time though and focus on Saturday first before turning our attention to Sunday.”
