Milton Keynes Breakers are excited to announce that Kalvin Oates has signed his first professional contract with the club.
Last season saw the 19-year-old graduate from the MK5D Breakers Academy, earning League and Finals MVP honours along the way as he played a major role in winning a National Championship.
Oates – who was a HoopsFix All Star back in May – also became a regular part of the rotation for the Men’s First Team as 2025/26 progressed, notably draining a clutch three-pointer to send our Playoff Quarter Final against Nottingham Hoods into overtime.
Shooting over 35% from behind the arc in the BCB last season, he cannot wait to get back on court as a full-time member of the team.
“I’m excited for the upcoming season with the Breakers,” Oates said. “ I’ve been playing here since I was 9 years old and have watched the club grow year after year.
“I’m grateful for everything the programme has done for me and I hope my journey with the club can inspire the younger generation to play basketball. Now I’m looking forward to the opportunity to showcase my talent at a higher level once again.”
Meanwhile, MK5D Academy Head Coach Adam Digby is delighted to see the first Academy player progress to the Men’s First Team on a permanent basis. “This announcement is tangible evidence of the great development work the club is doing, and watching youngsters move into the senior ranks has always been our goal.
“We can now point to this as proof that what we do is working, but what makes this even more special is that it’s Kalvin who becomes the example to follow. He’s not only an outstanding player, he’s a brilliant young man as well and I couldn’t be more proud of him for the way he earned his spot on the roster.”
Breakers Head Coach Nigel Lloyd is no stranger to developing young talent in Milton Keynes, and he is looking forward to working with Kalvin, “I’m really excited to have Kalvin on the team this season. He proved last season he can play at this level, and I’m looking forward to helping him with the transition to full-time senior basketball.”
