Another great initiative from the MK Breakers Community Foundation!

Saturday morning , the MK Breakers Community Foundation, witnessed an incredible turnout for our girls event – Her World, Her Rules, a superb showcase of the women’s basketball through community engagement. Our lead Community Coach and MK Breakers player, Paige Vyse, supported by Basketball England, organised a free on-and-off-court extravaganza for 150 girls, most playing basketball for the very first time.

The event was a resounding success, attracting such a level of interest that disappointingly we could not accommodate all the girls that had initially shown interest in attending . In line with the ‘Her World’ philosophy, it was members of the MK Breakers Senior Women’s team and female Club volunteers that worked with the girls in engaging coaching stations and empowering classroom sessions.

Highlights of the day:

– 150 FREE T shirts given away

– 150 FREE basketballs given away (sponsored by Sport MK)

– FREE snacks provided by Community Partner Brioche Pasquier

– On-court age group coaching sessions for girls school years 4-9

– Workshops hosted by local charities and community groups supporting women and girls – FREE admission to the MK Breakers vs Bromsgrove Division 2 title decider ( almost 300 watched!)

Community Coach lead Paige Vyse commented:

Basketball is a great educational tool for communication, leadership and teamwork. Alongside this, playing sport is a great way to support physical and mental health. Establishing these habits early definitely helps set girls up for success in the future.

A truly awesome Saturday morning of girls basketball, Her World – Her Rules , backed by FIBA was a huge success showcasing and promoting girls basketball and helping to increasing participation worldwide. MK Breakers – the home of GIRLS basketball in Milton Keynes
