Milton Keynes Breakers are delighted to announce the signing of KJ Johnson, a dynamic 6’3” point guard from Lewisburg, Tennessee, for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Johnson, who played collegiate basketball at the University of North Alabama, brings an impressive resume to the Breakers as he embarks on his professional career.

During his time at North Alabama, Johnson made a significant impact, appearing in 29 games in the 2023-24 season, 26 starts of which he started. He was the team’s second-leading scorer, averaging 14.1 points per game. Johnson’s standout moments include a buzzer-beating game-winner in the ASUN Championship Quarterfinals against Lipscomb, a shot that gained national attention and was featured as the #1 play on SportsCenter’s Top 10.

His performances earned him ASUN Player of the Week honours in January 2024 after averaging 25.5 points per game during a key stretch for the Lions.

Reflecting on his decision to join the Breakers, Johnson said, “I’m extremely happy to be a part of this organisation as well as starting my professional career. The community here seems very family-oriented, so it will help make it easier to adjust quickly. I did some research before I got here and saw how successful they have been, and it’s really exciting to be able to come in and be a part of that. I want nothing but to continue that success as well.”

Johnson also shared what Breakers fans can expect from him on the court: “I am a 1 or 2 guard that loves getting to the paint and creating for others and myself. I love getting others involved to give the players around me confidence so that it can also open up my game to where I can create shots for myself as well. Breakers fans can expect a very competitive, passionate player who is willing to do whatever to help the team be successful.

“The community that Coach talked about really was big to me, especially being my first year here. It is big for me to be able to be a part of a family that welcomes me and a coaching staff that believes in me.”

KJ Johnson becomes the ninth major signing of the summer for the Milton Keynes Breakers, joining a formidable lineup that includes Luke Gregory, Nate Robinson, Kai Williams, Blayne Freckleton, Jaguar Jackson, Kai Walker, Temi George, and Adrian Scarborough. His addition further strengthens the Breakers as they prepare for another competitive season in NBL Division 1.

Head Coach Billy Beddow-Patel is excited to see his newest recruit in action: “KJ is a dynamic guard that comes with great pedigree from his time at North Alabama. We loved his ability to play make and the competitive edge that he plays with. He’s going to be an exciting player to watch and I’m sure a big hit with the Breakers fans.”

You can catch KJ and the rest of the Breakers team in action on Saturday 7th September as we host last season’s NBL1 runners-up Essex Rebels in a preseason friendly at Bletchley Leisure Centre. Tickets for all September games and season tickets are available HERE.
