The MK Breakers are delighted to announce the signing of 6’9” centre Chris Tawiah.

29-year-old Tawiah returns to play for his hometown club following a successful professional career across Europe that has seen him play in the top leagues in the Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Romania, Macedonia, and Portugal, as well as stints with the Leicester Riders and London Lions of the British Basketball League, where he helped both clubs to Championships.

After picking up a basketball for the first time at the age of 16, Chris’ development was rapid as part of the MK Lions (now London Lions) program. He helped his junior team to a National Championship in his first season and made his professional debut with the Lions at aged 17, before setting off to America on a basketball scholarship to play collegiately for 4 years.

Chris brings top level experience to the Breakers, having played in 7 different top domestic European Leagues as well as the FIBA Europe Cup and Basketball Champions League. Playing for the Oberwart Gunners in the 2018-19 season, Tawiah was voted an All-Star starter in the Austrian league, averaging a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Speaking on joining the Breakers, Tawiah added “It’s truly a blessing to reflect on my experiences, which include playing in some of Europe’s elite basketball competitions for multiple teams, earning individual accolades along the way. Now, having come full circle, I’m excited to return home to where it all began. Reuniting with childhood teammates and playing in front of family and friends is something I eagerly anticipate.”

Chris, who has a passion for working with and inspiring the youth, is excited have an impact on the large youth section of the MK Breakers, “The genuine passion of the club members, players, and supporters is evident, and the club itself is brimming with talent. The young players emerging from the ranks are making their mark in GB teams and other national teams. Being able to support and guide these players on their journeys is a privilege, knowing they are starting in the same place I did.”

Breakers Head Coach Billy Beddow is excited to add Tawiah to an already talented roster, “Chris is a brilliant addition to the team. Having played overseas the majority of his career, it’s great to be able to bring him back home to Milton Keynes. Personally, it’s really exciting to see where this team can get to with someone of his calibre and inside presence on both ends of the floor!.”

Tawiah becomes seventh signing for the 2023/24 season, joining returners Luke Gregory, Jordan Spencer, Dante Langley, Mike New Jr, Blayne Freckleton and fellow new recruits Leon Henry and Andre Arissol. With the roster now almost complete, keep your eyes peeled for the final few signings still to come.
